DESIGNER POOL SERVICE

Safety Mission
Designer Pool Service  is a community advocate for swimming pool safety. We support programs that educate the public on the importance of swimming pool safety. We recommend each pool owner have a Certified Pool Operator inspect their pool for safety at least once a year.

Statistics
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14.

Approximately 300 people drown each year in Texas. For each child who drowns, it is estimated that four children are hospitalized for near-drowning.

In the time it takes to cross a room for a towel – 10 seconds – a child in a bathtub can be submerged; to answer the phone – two minutes – a child can lose consciousness; to sign for a package at the door – four to six minutes – a child submerged in a tub or pool can sustain permanent brain damage.

One inch of water that covers a child’s mouth and nose can cause drowning. Drowning areas of risk include: home pools, spas and ponds; natural bodies of water; bathtubs, toilets and buckets; and any standing water.

Swimming Pool Safety Tips

Never leave a child alone in the pool – NOT EVEN FOR A SECOND.
.
Limit access to pools and spas with self-latching and self-closing gates and doors. Latches should be installed out of children’s reach
Anyone over the age of 14 should learn CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and refresh their knowledge annually.
Divers should never dive from the side or shallow ends of a pool.
ABSOLUTELY NO DIVING should take place under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Avoid swimming in the dark in an unlit pool.
Keep a telephone by the pool side and dial 911 in the event of an emergency.
Drain standing water from swimming pool covers.
Keep large toys away from the pool. Remove all inflatable toys from the pool after each use.
Teach children over the age of 3 to swim, but remember they still need supervision.
Assign a designated Water Watcher to supervise children in and around a pool at all times.
